Discovering Apulia

(Option: Customized Itineraries)
Apulia (Puglia), Italy - 6 nights
Available year round

Once you have been to Puglia you will understand why this region of Italy is a best kept secret. There is good reason why the Italians take their holidays here! This week long escape will leave you completely satiated, but yet yearning for more. Delicious smells, divine tastes and a feeling of peace will quickly overcome your senses while you enjoy accommodation at a beautiful "Masseria".

Your accommodation for the week is simply magical. The owners have painstakingly brought this piece of heaven back to life after the property was abandoned for many years. During the week you will partake in a cooking class, olive oil and wine tastings and even have dinner in a vineyard! This itinerary gives you enough time to enjoy this special place while also providing guided tours to the area's must-see villages.

I fell in love with Puglia right away and strongly believe that you will also!

ITINERARY

DAY ONE

WELCOME TO PUGLIA!

Private transfer from Bari or Brindisi Airport to your amazing home for the week. This family owned Masseria is a 16th century treasure, located amongst centuries old olive groves. The family welcomes you to this magical place that took many years to renovate after being abandoned for over 40 years.

Settle in your new surroundings, walk around to absorb the beauty of this special oasis.

Tonight you will enjoy a welcome dinner at the Masseria.

Meals Included: Dinner

DAY TWO

MORNING COOKING CLASS & VISIT OF OSTUNI (THE "WHITE TOWN")

Enjoy a special cooking class today! Our farmer will lead you in the heart of the Apulian cuisine, putting your fingers literally in the pie. You will learn to prepare the dough with bran and flour, adding just enough of salt and water, giving life to the unique orecchiette, to the witty cavatelli and the more relaxed strascinate. The lesson will be topped with the story dedicated to the farm production of different types of wheat, with nice anecdotes related to the tradition and the local history. A good glass of wine will pamper your heart and stimulate your creativity.

This afternoon we visit the nearby white city of Ostuni – an imposing citadel known as La Città Bianca. The tiny winding streets of the oldest quarter are known by the Arabic term the “Casbah” and certainly look more Greek or eastern than the stereotypical piazzas of northern Italy. Enjoy dinner at a typical trattoria in Ostuni.

Meals Included: Breakfast, Tasting Lunch, Dinner

DAY THREE

OLIVE OIL TASTING & VISIT OF LOCOROTONDO

Today you will enjoy an extra virgin olive oil tasting at the Masseria. Our farmer/sommelier will take you for a stroll around the farm, reaching the thousand years old olive grove, while telling you stories and traditions from the past connected to the rural production and the cultivation of extra virgin olive oil. You will have the opportunity to taste the three qualities of extra virgin olive oil, all organically produced in the farm: Il Mille, Il Cento, Il Venti5. Il Mille, a monocultivar, produced by our thousand years old trees; Il Cento, monocultivar, produced by our hundred years old trees; Il Venti5, a blend produced by our youngest trees. The experience will be enriched by a local aperitif (chick peas, fried broad beans, olives, friselle, tomatoes, almonds, taralli and focacce) putting your souls together embraced by the authentic taste of Puglia.

This afternoon you will be treated to a visit of Locorotondo, one of the most beauitful towns in Italy. Nicknamed “città del vino” for its excellent dry white spumante (sparkling) wine made from local Verdeca grapes, you can meander the atmospheric alleyways bedecked with geraniums and citrus plants. For dinner you will take part in the local tradition of "fornello pronto" where local butcher shops transform into restaurants and serve excellent grilled meat.
